Palmer Hayden's Bus Stop is a charming Mid-century scene. Five figures cluster near a bench, waiting

for a ride onto the next component of their day. A bare-branched tree places the scene in winter, and

the group is well-dressed for cool weather in "downtown" clothes, each hatted as was the style. Three

standing figures appear to converse, perhaps about something in the newspaper the man with a pipe is holding open. Though standing close by, one woman has turned her back to us. She and the woman seated on the bench seem disengaged from what the other three share. The scene is one of a group relying on public transport, content in the presence of others as they wait.
