Jean Franksen worked with Hayter when he led workshops in the 1940s at Philadelphia’s Print Club. She later taught with Benton Spruance at Beaver College, since renamed Arcadia University. New biographical details on Franksen were published in Christina Weyl’s excellent book, Women of Atelier 17: Modernist Printmaking in Midcentury New York. We are very happy to include Franksen’s ambitious drawing with its seductive handling of forms that seem to twist and writhe.
