Paul Keene’s large etching and aquatint series are part of an ambitious project. Paul reworked the composition in several stages from the first etching-only state. Veils of thin and then dense aquatint are organized in a dark and light pattern to a handsome effect. His stacks of etched lines and shapes suggest abstracted figures and landscapes. Further consideration led Keene to selectively add color, working with deep blues, earthy reds, and scarlet orange.
