We are very pleased to offer rare and important works on paper by Herbert Gentry (1919-2003). Gentry is one of a highly significant group of African Americans who established their careers in Europe. Gentry returned to Paris after serving in the US Army in Europe and African during World War II. He was attracted to the excitement of Paris and with support of the GI Bill, he and his musician wife opened a gallery and café there in 1953. Gentry also established studios in Denmark and Sweden and was very much a part of the post-war social and cultural changes that swept through Europe.
