William Fett American, 1918-2006
Fett had his first solo exhibition at Durlacher Galleries in New York in 1944 at age 26. He worked almost exclusively in watercolor and he found inspiration in the landscapes and flora of Mexico after visiting on a travel fellowship from the Art Institute of Chicago. Twenty-one works by Fett were featured within the Fifty-Fifth Annual American Exhibition of Watercolors and Drawings at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1944. We suspect he met Stanley William Hayter and Fred Becker in New York. Both artists owned Fett’s work and this one belonged to Becker.
