This October the International Fine Print Dealers Association returns to the Javits Center in New York for the 30th edition of the preeminent art fair for prints and printmaking. The IFPDA Print Fair is the largest international art fair dedicated to prints, spanning periods and styles from old masters to contemporary, making it a must-see destination for collectors and curators.
Dolan/Maxwell (booth 110) will honor the artistic legacies of two iconic printmaking workshops that left an indelible mark on the landscape of American art: Stanley William Hayter's Atelier 17 and Robert Blackburn's Printmaking Workshop. The enduring significance of these workshops continues to inspire and inform our contemporary art world. We are proud to exhibit important prints and drawings by Hayter in the context of artists who worked closely with him in New York and Paris. Likewise we have highly significant works by Robert Blackburn along with artists mentored by him.
The overarching philosophy for each studio embodied a commitment to artistic innovation, technical excellence, and a spirit of artistic camaraderie that transcended societal and economic boundaries. Each studio laid the groundwork for both a more inclusive and experimental approach to printmaking and art making as a whole. Each studio drew artists from all over the world as word of each distinct opportunity spread. Indeed printmaking continues to be guided by the pedagogical methods of Hayter and Blackburn.
Along with works born of the intricate web of artistic connections and innovations made by Blackburn and Hayter, we will present masterful prints and drawings by artists who preceded and followed these giants of their field. We will include works from the WPA era and very recent works to extend the stories of Modern and Contemporary print making practice. This year’s fair will have an addition focus on drawings as they relate to printmaking and we are eager to share exceptional works by Hayter, Terry Haass, Dorothy Dehner, Dexter Davis, Anne Ryan, and Dox Thrash.
We look forward to seeing you and looking at The Print Fair.
